Note The Alboran Sea is the most windy sub-basin of the Mediterranean — Tramontane, Levante and local winds create swell. Rif mountains hiking + surf is a great combination.

Hazards

CURRENT NE Alboran Sea swells create lateral currents. Read the bay before paddling out.
RIP NE Alboran swell can build a rip against the eastern rocks of the bay — paddle wide and let it release rather than fighting straight back to the peak.
LOCALS Frontier destination with a tiny, welcoming Amazigh surf scene — more curiosity than localism, but it's still a very small community.
INFORMATION Limited surf infrastructure. Ask at the surf spots directly for conditions. Self-sufficient approach required.
