Hazards

REEF Rocky reef bottom — booties essential. Check depth on low tide before paddling out.
RIP NW Tramontane/Mistral swell can build a rip along the reef edge — Tabarka's dive community can advise on the day's conditions before you paddle out.
LOCALS Tiny, emerging surf scene — you may well be the only one out. Friendly rather than territorial, given how few surfers there are.
INFORMATION Limited surf information available locally. Ask at Tabarka dive shops for conditions intel.

Local knowledge

Best tide Mid to high rising · low tide exposes reef dangerously
Peak season Nov–Mar · NW swell from Gulf of Lion via Tramontane/Mistral · Tunisia's most exposed coast
Swell key NW swell from Western Med · Tramontane/Mistral driven · Reef break · Regarded among specialist surf explorers as one of the better-known lefts in the Mediterranean, though still rare/storm-dependent vs. Atlantic-style surf
Level Intermediate · Reef bottom · Frontier surf destination · Local knowledge essential
Dawn patrol Tabarka sunrise with Genoese fort. Largely unexplored — potential for discovering new breaks.
