LAVA ROCK Lava rock coastline north of the main beach — stay on sandy sections. Booties recommended north of city.
RIP E/SE Ionian swell creates a lateral pull along the sandy Playa section — the south-facing sandy stretch stays calmer if the current picks up.
LOCALS Easygoing Sicilian beach scene at Playa; the rockier Acitrezza section further north draws a smaller, more committed crew.
CURRENT E swell creates lateral currents at Playa di Catania. South-facing sections are calmer.
