Hazards

WIND-CHOP, NOT SWELL This is fundamentally a windsurfing spit, not a surf break — the afternoon Maestral makes it famous for sailing, not paddling.
SHIFTING SANDBAR The spit itself constantly reshapes with wind, waves and current — a protected geomorphological monument, so respect the natural process.
CROWDS Extremely popular tourist beach — expect heavy crowds in summer, both in and out of the water.
SHORT RIDES ONLY When it does break during a SW/SE blow, expect fast, shifting wind-chop wrapping the spit — short rides or foil-surfing only.

Local knowledge

Best tide Mid tide
Peak season SW or SE windswell events · extreme conditions only for actual surfing
Swell key SW/SE wind-chop wrapping the sand spit · Mostly a windsurf/kite venue
Level Advanced · Shifting pebble/sand · Foam bashes and foil-surfing rather than real waves
Dawn patrol Best treated as a novelty session — go for the iconic spit and the windsurfing scene, not for genuine surf.
