Hazards

REEF Limestone reef — booties essential. Shallow at low tide on the inner sections.
RIP NW swell builds a strong rip off the reef's inner sections — experienced locals use it to get back out fast, but it demands respect on bigger days.
LOCALS Small, dedicated Gozo crew who treat this as Malta's best wave — respect the pecking order, it's a serious lineup for such a small island.
ACCESS Salt pan area — do not cross active salt harvesting operations. Access to the reef via the coastal path only.

Local knowledge

Best tide Mid to high rising · low tide exposes reef dangerously
Peak season Nov–Mar · NW swell · Direct northern exposure on Gozo · Malta's best surf window

Dawn patrol Salt pan geometric forms at sunrise are extraordinary. Dawn patrol recommended.
