Getting there

From Tirana · 140 km · 2h30
Airport Vlorë (VLO, opening) or Tirana Intl. (TIA) · 140 km · 2h30
Note Right where the Adriatic meets the Ionian Sea, Vlorë's varied coastline is less a single spot than a whole exploration zone — beaches north of town catch Adriatic swell, the Karaburun Peninsula headlands south of town catch Ionian swell.

Parking

Cost Free
Surface Town and beach parking · varies by exact beach chosen
Fills by Quiet outside summer · Oct–Feb best for surf
Walk to water Varies by beach
Facilities Full Vlorë city services · remote once south toward Karaburun

Hazards

DIFFUSE, NOT ONE PEAK This is a coastline to explore rather than a single named break — waves pop up unpredictably depending on the exact storm track.
MIXED TERRAIN North of town is long sandy coastal plain; south toward Karaburun the shoreline turns steep and rocky — very different characters.
ISOLATED SOUTH The Karaburun Peninsula stretch is remote and rugged — no facilities, no lifeguards, no surf community.
HIGH-RES FORECAST NEEDED Scoring this coastline well requires checking wind/swell at a fine-grained level — it rewards forecast-checking over just showing up.

Local knowledge

Best tide Varies by beach
Peak season Oct–Feb · SW swell (Adriatic side) or NW swell (Ionian/Karaburun side)
Swell key SW/NW swell depending on exact stretch · Adriatic swell north of town, Ionian swell south toward Karaburun
Level Advanced · Mixed sand/rock · A genuine exploration zone, not a mapped-out spot
Dawn patrol October–November is the sweet spot per regional guides — real storm swell, water still warm enough for a spring suit, no summer crowds.
